There are many types of sealed lead-acid batteries, such as AGM and Gel. Understanding which battery is best for you can be complicated. Canbat Technologies Inc. employs a team of specialized engineers and battery experts to answer all the frequently asked questions you might have to help your project. This page is always growing with more questions as we receive more questions. If you come across a term that you do not understand, you may be able to find its definition in our technical glossary. If you have a question that you can’t find an answer to, you can submit your own question to our battery experts at the bottom of this page. We also have 24/7 chat support based in Canada.
What temperature range can your VRLA batteries operate in?
Canbat sealed lead acid batteries can be discharged at a temperature range between -40°C and 60°C (-40°F to 140°F) and charged at a temperature range from -20°C to 50°C (-4°F to 122°F).
What is the differences between AGM and Gel sealed lead batteries?
Both AGM and Gel batteries are lead sealed valve regulated batteries. They both share identical physically appearance in terms of size, shape and colour. The difference exists in how the electrolyte is restrained. In AGM batteries, the electrolyte is absorbed by sponge-like glass fiber separators. In Gel batteries, the liquid electrolyte converts to a gel when the battery is charged.
What is the battery made from?
The body and lids of Canbat batteries are manufactured from ABS plastic. The inside of the battery however, is mead from premium quality lead.
What is the difference between VRLA and AGM batteries?
There is no difference between VRLA and AGM. Both acronyms refer to the same battery type, which is sealed lead acid or valve regulated lead acid. Canbat VRLA (AGM) batteries are all maintenance-free and non-spillable.
can I add acid to a Canbat battery?
No, you should never add acid to your Canbat VRLA battery, nor should you try to open the battery for any other reason. Our batteries  are purposely sealed to work on a recombination principle. If they are ever opened, they will never give you the same power again. Canbat VRLA batteries are non-spillable and maintenance free.
In which direction does current flow in a Canbat battery?
Current flows from the positive terminal (anode) to the negative terminal (cathode).
What type of charger should I use to charge a Canbat battery?
The perfect charger for charging a Canbat VRLA battery is a smart charger with multi-phase charging technology. A smart charger charges the battery in different stages and automatically turns off when the battery is full, in order to prevent over charging.
What is overcharging?
Overcharging is simply when a charger overcharges a battery. Overcharging is the number one factor to braking a battery as the battery’s performance will decrease. This is why it is important to buy a smart charger that automatically shuts off once the battery is full.
Where do I buy a battery charger from?
You should be able to find a smart charger from the same store you bought the battery from. If you are not able to find a suitable charger, contact us and we can direct you to a dealer near you. Our email address is support@canbat.com
Can I charge a Canbat VRLA battery with a car charger?
You should not charge your Canbat lead acid battery with a car charger. VRLA battery chargers and car chargers have different specific gravities. If you use a car charger to charge  your Canbat battery, you will damage the battery’s performance and shorten its life.
How big of a charger do I need for my battery?
Smart chargers come in different capacities, such as 1Ah, 3Ah, 5Ah and 20Ah. Depending on the size of your battery, your charger will need to have the appropriate specifications. if you need help determining what charger is best for you, please seek advise from the store you are buying the charger, or send us an email at support@canbat.com and we can help you out
Can I install my Canbat battery in a sealed environment?
Canbat VRLA batteries must be charged and discharged in a ventilated environment. All sealed lead acid batteries generate gas that must not be stored in an enclosed environment, as it will create a risk of fire and explosion if a spark comes in contact.
Can I lay a Canbat battery on its side?
Yes, you can lay the battery on its side without losing any of its capacities. This is mainly because Canbat batteries are sealed and do not cause any leaks. However, try to avoid installing our batteries upside-down.
Can I bend the terminals of the battery?
No you should never try to bend the terminals of any sealed lead acid battery. This is because the terminals are  bonded in place with epoxy. Bending the terminals could break the epoxy and cause the electrolyte to come out and be replaced by air. This will hinder the performance of the battery and shorten its life. Please note that bending the terminals will void the warranty on the battery.
How do I connect multiple Canbat batteries in parallel?
Simply connect the positive terminals with each other and the negative terminals with each other. This will allow you to maintain the same voltage, but increase the overall capacity. This means you will still be able to use the same charger, but it will take longer to charge as the overall capacity is now greater.
How do I connect multiple Canbat batteries in series?
You will need to connect the positive terminal of the first battery into the negative terminal of the next battery. Then similarly, connect the negative terminal of the first battery into the positive terminal of the next battery. Note that connecting batteries in series will increase the overall voltage, so you will need to use a charger with the appropriate charger.
