Club Car is one of the most common golf cart brands in Canada, and one of the easiest to upgrade with a Club Car battery replacement. Compatibility varies by model and year — here’s what to know before ordering a lithium, lead-carbon, or AGM replacement.
Fitment verification: Before ordering any replacement battery, measure your existing battery compartment and compare against the new battery’s specifications — including length, width, height, terminal clearance, hold-down system, and cable routing. Club Car DS (36V and 48V)
The Club Car DS is the long-running workhorse of the lineup, produced in both 36V (six 6V batteries) and 48V (eight 6V or four 12V) configurations. The 48V DS pairs particularly well with our drop-in CBK-48-GC2 kits — the original GC2 tray is designed to accept Canbat GC2 lithium batteries with minimal or no modification, subject to tray and clearance verification. For 36V DS carts, we recommend the CBK-36-100 or CBK-36-150 for the best balance of runtime and value.
Note on older DS models: Some Club Car DS carts include an onboard computer (OBC) and a solenoid that may need to be addressed during a lithium conversion. Club Car Precedent (48V)
The Precedent runs eight 6V batteries in factory configuration. Standard GC2 trays are designed to accept our CBK-48-GC2 kits as a drop-in replacement, subject to tray and clearance verification. The Precedent is a Canadian favourite, and the 2-pack or 3-pack GC2 kit is typically the best value for daily use.
Club Car Onward (48V)
The Onward came in both 48V lead-acid and a factory-lithium configuration. For lead-acid Onward conversions, the CBK-48-GC2 kits drop into the standard battery compartment. Club Car Tempo and Villager

EZGO TXT (36V and 48V)
The EZGO TXT is one of the most converted carts in North America. 48V TXTs running six 8V or four 12V batteries from the factory drop into our CBK-48-GC2 kits or, for the 12V tray models, our CBK-48-100 or CBK-48-150. 36V TXTs run on six 6V GC2 batteries — our CBK-36-100 is a common upgrade.
Note on PDS controllers: Some 1990s and early-2000s EZGO TXTs use a Precision Drive System (PDS) controller. PDS-equipped carts are generally compatible with lithium but may require recalibration of low-voltage cutoff settings during conversion. Confirm controller type before ordering.
EZGO RXV (48V)
The RXV uses six 8V or four 12V batteries depending on year. The 4x 12V configuration accepts our CBK-48-100 directly. The 8V configurations work with CBK-48-GC2 kits with tray spacers or a reconfigured battery box.

36V considerations: 36V carts are still widely used and parts-supported, particularly the Club Car DS and EZGO TXT lineups. Do I Need a New Charger?
Yes — if you’re converting to lithium. LiFePO4 batteries require a charger configured with a lithium charge profile (constant current followed by constant voltage with specific cutoff thresholds). A standard lead-acid charger will undercharge or improperly charge a lithium pack, reducing capacity over time and potentially voiding your battery warranty.

For most 36V and 48V golf cart applications, the standard recommendations are:
Series jumpers between batteries: 4 AWG — suitable for typical golf cart amperage draws
Main positive and negative cables: 2 AWG — from battery pack to cart’s main posts
For high-amperage builds (lifted carts, towing): Size up to 1/0 AWG or 2/0 AWG on main leads
Lug Size
All Canbat lithium golf cart batteries use M8 terminal posts. If your existing cables have 5/16″ or 3/8″ lugs (common on older lead-acid configurations), you can either crimp on new M8 lugs or buy new cables sized for M8.
Reusing Existing Cables
If your kit replaces the same number of batteries with the same series configuration (for example, replacing 4x 12V lead-acid with 4x 12V lithium), your existing series jumpers usually fit.
