Lithium Converter Replacement Units
Here is what you need to know before upgrading your RV to a lithium battery setup.
Locate and determine the type of your existing charger/converter in your RV.
Note: There are 2 main types of converters in the RV industry. The first is Floor Mount and the second is Wall Mount.
When changing your converter, it does not matter whether the new converter is placed on the floor or wall-mounted.
Once you locate your unit, determine the model number and current rating.

Information on upgrading your WF-8735 converter/charger:
WF-8735 is compatible with a lead-acid battery or AGM battery, and it will only charge a lithium battery to about 85 percent. You have a couple of options to replace your WF-8735P with one of our lithium battery-compatible converters:
- If you can install the lithium battery within 10 feet (or closer) of the converter, you could replace the WF-8735P with a WF-8735-AD. Here’s a link to the WF-8735-AD operator manual that includes installation information: https://www.wfcotech.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/AutoDetect-8700-AD-Series-ManualCatHI.pdf – or –
- If you cannot move the lithium battery closer to the converter, you could pull the reverse polarity fuse on the WF-8735P to disconnect its converter. Purchase our WF-9835-AD deck mount converter and install the converter closer to the lithium battery. Note: the WF-9835-AD may also be listed as a WF-9835-AD-CB (“CB” refers to our method of shipping, which is cardboard or a colorful box). Here’s a link to the WF-9835-AD operator manual that includes installation instructions: https://www.wfcotech.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/AutoDetect-9800-AD-Series-ManualCat.pdf.
The Auto Detect (AD) is a new patent-pending technology that will detect a lead-acid battery, AGM battery, or lithium battery and automatically change the charging profile based on the battery. Auto-Detect (AD) enables you to optimize your batteries without needing to operate a manual switch.
Note when used with a lithium battery: if possible, please install your new lithium battery within 10’ or closer to the converter to help improve charging performance and reduce voltage drop. A feature of lithium batteries is that they can be installed inside your RV, unlike a lead-acid battery or AGM battery that must be vented to the exterior. You may want to check to see if you have room under a dinette bench seat, sofa, bed base, etc. Here’s a link to a video explaining the WFCO Auto-Detect (AD) when used with a lithium battery: https://youtu.be/f7MA5lKMf9A.
IMPORTANT!! Before proceeding, make sure your RV wiring is rated to support the following changes when the converter is used with a lithium battery. If you are unsure, contact your RV dealer for assistance. These instructions do not apply when the converter is used with a lead-acid battery or AGM battery. If your RV wiring is rated for the following changes, then:
- If circuit # 6 on the fuse board is a 30-amp fuse, replace it with a 40-amp fuse.
- Check the inline fuse between the battery and the converter. If it is a 30-amp fuse, replace it with a 40-amp fuse. Note: this inline fuse was installed by the RV manufacturer on the battery positive cable, within 3 feet of the battery. If you cannot locate it, please call your RV manufacturer for assistance.
I have a mobility scooter called Pursuit XL. It has 12volt 100ah AGM batteries that have recently died. I want to switch it over to lithium batteries to get a longer life span, lighter weight etc. Do I need to switch out the charger to a lithium battery charger or will the one I have for the AGM batteries I now have work? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
You can continue to use the AGM charger to recharge Canbat LiFePO4 batteries, as long as you don’t fully discharge the lithium batteries. This is because once lithium is fully discharged, you’ll have no voltage on the batteries. An AGM charger is not able to recharge lithium that has no voltage. If you’re okay with that, then you can continue using an AGM charger to charge LiFePO4 batteries. It’s a good idea to buy a Canbat Bluetooth lithium battery, so you’ll always know what the state of charge is. This is not only helpful in preventing fully discharging your new lithium batteries, but it’s also good to know how much power you have while you’re on the road. Canbat Bluetooth LiFePO4 batteries are available in 12V, 24V and 36V.
